…across the front yard. I’ll feel lost for a couple days, making my constant trips to the front window to view the lights along with my guests.
There’s times where I feel like it has become an obsession: watching people watching the lights, constantly making sure the lights are running properly, checking the FM signal over and over, dreaming up bigger and better display elements, and so on. My friends on the DIYC forum call it the ‘CLAP’ (Christmas Light Addiction Problem). Hi, I’m Bruce, and I have the CLAP 🙂
Now that the show has ended, I will begin planning next year’s display in earnest. Group buys for controllers and lights kick off in January and February, which help soften the financial blow, and give me something to work on year-round. I will begin to pick the music for next year, and start sequencing a skeleton for each song, to be fleshed out when I have my layout finalized. I will hem and haw on what to add to the already crammed yard, while trying to keep it all tasteful. I will try and convince my neighbors that they need to let me do their yards, too. I ran out of time for that this year 🙂 I will put some thought into what charity I will support with next year’s show. I have much to do in the ‘off’ season.
Of course, I still have to take it all down before any of that happens… Hopefully I get motivated soon, but I know it will be a couple weeks before I start disassembly. I have a minor surgery scheduled for my wrist on Wednesday, which will preclude me doing any amount of physical work for a couple weeks, so the lights will sit patiently until I am able and ready.
I will try and keep everyone abreast of any happenings on the show front, but without giving too many details away. Two things I can tell you now:
1- I will have two different shows, one a more traditional, and one more rock and/or roll, to play on separate nights during the week
2- I plan to start incorporating some LEDs into the show, with some of them being pixel style. Learing curve will be steep 🙂
Have a blessed and prosperous New Year! Bruce
