New Candy Cane

I finally got the giant (11′ tall) candy cane up and running last night.  It is made of PVC pipe, pink insulation board, black pallet wrap, and a lot of hot glue.    I built the framework of 1/2″ PVC, then decided it wasn’t stiff enough, so I removed one section of PVC and added a piece 1-1/2″ diameter in it’s place.  This definitely improved the overall stability of the structure.  I then wrapped the entire thing in black stretch wrap, and then the lights- 3600 total.  That is fewer than the old candy cane tree had, but they are laid out much more nicely.  I think it turned out pretty well.

I don’t have any pictures with it wrapped, but I stood it up against the house and took some video:

I think it looks much better than the old version, where I had to wrap around the tree trunk that stuck up out of the top.  All in all, a success!  Now on to the next project.  Time is getting short.

You wouldn't believe how many people just loved that thing. It got as many comments as the spiral mega tree did.

Your candy cane at the previous house was great, so it is a big plus that it lives on in a new iteration.
